Centenary Sugarcane Breeders and Pathologists meet held
As part of its centenary celebrations, Sugarcane Breeding Institute of the Indian Council of Agricultural Research organized a National level Breeders and Pathologists meet on 23.1.12.
The meeting was organized in collaboration with the All India Coordinated Research Project on Sugarcane and the Society for Sugarcane Research & Development, Coimbatore. Scientists from Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Bihar, Assam, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Orissa, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala and Tamil Nadu participated in this one-day meet and discussed issues relating to:
- Breeding strategies for improving productivity and disease resistance
- Refining the disease screening methods for more reliable, reproducible results
- Complimenting disease resistance with chemical and biological control methods for effective management of diseases in sugarcane.
