"Society for Sugarcane Research & Development" (SSRD) has been formed and registered in March 2011 thanks to the initiatives and efforts of Dr.N.Vijayan Nair, Director, Sugarcane breeding Institute (SBI). This will cater to the needs of sugarcane Research workers, Development people and Factory personnel. The society has launched a journal by name "Journal of sugarcane Research" to act as a platform for the publication of valuable research findings. The first issue of the Journal was released by Dr.S. Ayyappan, Secretary, Dept. of Agricultural Research & Education, Govt. of India and Director General, Indian Council of Agricultural Research during the launch function of the Centenary celebrations of SBI on 24th Oct. 2011. All involved/interested in sugarcane are invited to become members of the Society for a nominal subscription and contribute to the journal. The Office of the Society is located at SBI, Coimbatore.

Centenary Launch Function
Dr S.Ayyappan, Secretary, Dept. of Agricultural Research & Education, Govt. of India & Director General, Indian Council of Agricultural Research, New Delhi launched the Centenary celebrations of Sugarcane Breeding Institute (SBI), Coimbatore on its 99th Foundation day on 24 October 2011. In a colourful function during the occasion the Director General also inaugurated the Centralized Biotechnology laboratory and the Transgenic glasshouse, besides releasing a number of Institute publications .
